What Is CEREC?

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction) is a state-of-the-art technology we use in our practise to create porcelain restorations (crowns, partial crowns and inlays) in a single visit. These restorations include crowns, partial crowns and inlays, which without CEREC would usually involve multiple visits and outsourcing of construction to a dental laboratory.

Traditionally, badly damaged teeth, or teeth prone to fracture, have been restored with crowns that have involved multiple procedures, impressions and outsourcing construction to a dental laboratory. While crowns still have their indications, the precisely milled CEREC restorations offer a more conservative and biocompatible solution that is kind to teeth, highly aesthetic and durable.

How Does CEREC Work?

With the advent of high-tech computerised dentistry, life-like porcelain crowns and partial crowns can now be designed, manufactured and fitted in a single visit using the CEREC cadcam techniques. With the aid of a 3D camera, a digital impression is taken, and the powerful software is used to design and mill a customised precision-fitted porcelain restoration that is bonded to the tooth.

These techniques take advantage of the latest computer, material and bonding technology to preserve and strengthen damaged tooth structure to produce the strongest, most durable and aesthetic ceramic restorations available. The new CEREC technologies mean that your tooth can be fully restored in a single visit without needing to outsource materials from dental laboratories.

What are CEREC Restorations made from?

CEREC restorations are milled from a single piece of porcelain made of industrially pure ceramic that has similar optical and physical properties to natural tooth enamel, maintaining your natural comfort and aesthetics. Once bonded to the underlying tooth, this creates a durable, naturally beautiful and elegant solution to complex dental reconstructions.
